Helvetas

The Swiss Association for International Cooperation was founded in 1955 as the first private Swiss organisation for development cooperation. Helvetas is a not for profit, non partisan, politically and denominationally independent association supported by 43,000 members.

"We want a world in which all people can live self-determined lives in dignity and safety while respecting the environment".


MISSION:

In Vietnam

Helvetas is working in Vietnam since 1994, in the sector of Agriculture, Forestry, and Rural Development. Today our program focuses on governance, local planning, public administration reform, water and sanitation, organic and fair trade cocoa and value chain development. Promoting gender equality and enhancing the participation of ethnic minorities are the main priorities for the coming years. In Vietnam, Helvetas has 30 national and 3 international staff working in 3 offices (in Hanoi, Cao Bang and HCMC). The annual budget is around 2 million USD.

 

In the world

Helvetas works in 18 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. More than 600 national and 45 international staff are committed to support local partners in 4 working areas:

·        Infrastructure in Rural Areas 

·        Natural Resources Management 

·        Education and Culture 

·        Civil Society and the State

The overall annual budget of the organisation is around 60 millions USD. In Switzerland at the head office in Zurich Helvetas employs around 70 staff. Besides coordinating the country programs, the activities in Switzerland focuses on awareness raising for development policies among the Swiss public through information campaigns, the trade of fair trade products from the South and the Far East and through organisation of cultural events.
