Helvetas organic cotton projects Zur Homepage der seco

Since 1997 Helvetas has been committed to supporting environmental-friendly and socially accceptable cotton production. In 2002 the first farmers in the Helvetas project in Mali started to produce organic cotton. In Mali organic cotton certification was achieved in 2003.

 

Organic cotton from Mali and Burkina Faso has been fair trade certified by Max Havelaar since 2004. In 2004 Helvetas began to transfer the successful approach to Kyrgyzstan, Burkina Faso and Senegal.
